Strong people. Bold hypotheses. Real results.

Know your field deeply and see questions without ready answers? Here, your expertise can meet a real challenge, other disciplines and a testable idea.

Your specialism and curiosity are enough to start a conversation. No previous lab experience is needed.

One question. Different ways to find a solution.

You may recognise yourself.

01

You see beneath the surface

You notice details that change the outcome: equipment fit, itinerary constraints or an error in the data. You want to understand, not settle for a standard answer.

02

You test ideas

You ask why, compare explanations and enjoy turning an idea into a prototype. You can change your mind when observations point elsewhere.

03

You build things

You bring practical experience, technology, a hypothesis or a challenge. You want to combine expertise and build something that works.

Your depth. A shared challenge. New possibilities.

An expert knows a plausible answer is not yet a useful solution. A practitioner checks feasibility, an engineer builds a prototype and a researcher helps distinguish an effect from coincidence. The lab connects these roles around one question.

A concrete question, not an abstract idea.

Two research contexts. The hypotheses below are proposals for testing; team composition, data access and terms are agreed separately.

Why join when you already know your craft?

01

Test your approach

Apply your method to an unfamiliar question and see where it works and where it needs to change.

02

Work across disciplines

See a familiar problem through the eyes of an engineer, practitioner, analyst or customer.

03

Make your contribution tangible

Agree on a deliverable: a prototype, evaluation set, comparison method or data review.

04

Meet people through the work

Start a collaboration through a shared question and mutual care for the quality of the work.

Respect the craft. Test the ideas.

  • Arguments and observations matter more than status.
  • A disproved hypothesis is useful knowledge too.
  • Contribution, responsibility and terms are clear before starting.

Where would you like to start?

01

With my expertise

Tell us what you know deeply and which questions interest you. A polished portfolio is not required.

Offer your expertise
02

With my hypothesis

Describe an observation or idea you want to test. You do not need a finished experiment plan.

Propose an idea

What happens after you get in touch

  1. 01

    A short introduction

Your name, contact and specialism. A work example and a hypothesis help, but can be discussed later.

  2. 02

    A human review

We compare your interests and experience with the research question and clarify whether a suitable task is available.

  3. 03

    Agree the terms

If there is mutual interest, we discuss contribution, resources, payment, authorship, rights and data access.

  4. 04

    A bounded test

Agree the first deliverable and criteria. Then decide whether to continue, change the approach or stop.

Payment, rights and access: before work begins

Define hypothesis and business owners, the test lead and technology and measurement responsibilities. Roles may overlap. Agree on payment, budget, code and material rights, confidentiality, data permissions, publication, handover and exit. Publish participants’ names and results only with permission.

How we assess fit

We discuss domain knowledge, one relevant example, data skills, testable thinking, communication and availability. We do not automatically score CVs. Any practical assessment has an agreed scope; substantial production work requires a separate payment agreement.

Possible ways to collaborate

Research contributor

Help with a defined question: reviewing a method, checking quality or interpreting results. Bring a clear approach, careful conclusions and documented handover.

Introduce your expertise

Project specialist

Own a bounded task with an agreed deliverable. Define scope, resources, acceptance criteria and collaboration terms before starting.

Introduce your expertise

Technology partner

Bring technology, an integration, infrastructure or a research method. Check fit, security and how to measure usefulness.

Discuss a technology partnership

Expert network

Share your skills and interest in future tasks. Further involvement requires mutual agreement; it is not a promise of work or a project.

Participation questions

I have never worked with a lab. Is this for me?

Yes. Practical experience, curiosity and willingness to test ideas matter more. Start with a problem you know from your work; you do not need to call yourself a researcher.

Do I need a CV or a public portfolio?

Not for the first conversation. Your specialism and contact are enough. Describe one example in your own words, without client names, confidential data or a public profile link.

Are these job openings?

No. The briefs describe potential research tasks. Recruitment is labelled separately only after the responsible owner confirms it.

How are terms agreed?

Before starting, agree the task, contribution, deliverable, timing, payment, rights and data access. An application is not employment or a promise of payment without an agreement.

Can we propose our own hypothesis?

Yes. Choose a future project in the form and describe the question, one relevant example and a test approach. Contact about other tasks requires separate consent.

Start with the question you keep coming back to.

You do not need a finished idea. Bring depth in your craft and a desire to investigate together.

The catalogue presents potential research directions. A published hypothesis does not imply open recruitment, an approved budget or data access. We agree on each task’s terms before work begins.
