Revenue exists, but cash arrives unpredictably
AI can surface recurring delays and unusual movements in de-identified data. Make financial decisions using verified records and an accountable specialist.
RA LAB practical guide · based on the library’s GRI / GTM sources.
GOAL
Identify a verifiable gap between sales, collections and expenses.
VALUABLE FINAL DELIVERABLE
A cash-timing map, deviation causes and an owner-led change plan.
Record agreement, fulfilment, invoice and actual payment dates. Identify the source and reconciliation owner for each. Differences may reflect contract terms, recording errors or workflow delays.
Agree the period and collection categories with the finance owner first. AI does not replace accounting or make uncertain future payments a reliable forecast.
What AI can do in a limited test
Using approved de-identified features, AI can propose delay groups, a discrepancy checklist or a draft reminder. Check each discrepancy against a source record.
An accountable person approves payment terms, customer commitments and any action involving money. Do not send banking details, credentials or personal-data documents to an unapproved AI service.
Example discrepancy log
Illustration. De-identified transaction reference → agreed due date → actual date → verified cause → action → owner → outcome. Mark unknown values and disputed cases separately.
Stop automation if transactions disappear, currencies or periods are mixed, or reminders concern already-paid items. Completeness and accuracy matter more than a convincing AI explanation.
Common questions
Is this a financial forecast or investment advice?
No. This guide helps frame a payment-workflow test. Financial decisions require verified records and an accountable specialist.
How can we start without an accounting integration?
Agree a small de-identified sample with the owner, manually check completeness and choose one recurring delay. Define integration terms after reviewing the use case and data requirements.
AI helps identify patterns and generate hypotheses. Verify outputs against source evidence, use de-identified data and keep a person accountable for decisions.
Choose a short period and record collection and payment timing. Do not upload identifiable bank data into AI.
Period, expected and actual collections and payments.
Step deliverable: Period, expected and actual collections and payments.
2. Find recurring gap
AI may group de-identified delays. Verify source records and distinguish seasonality from process failures.
Where is the gap, what evidence supports it and what else could explain it?
Step deliverable: Where is the gap, what evidence supports it and what else could explain it?
3. Choose one action
Test one measure: payment terms, reminders, purchasing or reserves. Review it with the finance owner.
Action, owner, timeframe and cash-flow metric.
Step deliverable: Action, owner, timeframe and cash-flow metric.
4. Review outcome
Compare actual timing and side effects. Extend observation if evidence is insufficient.
Actual result, limitation, decision and next review date.
Step deliverable: Actual result, limitation, decision and next review date.
How to judge whether it helped
You should leave with a document that supports a decision and a next action. Completing steps does not guarantee a commercial result. Measure the chosen change separately over an agreed period. If evidence is missing, state that and plan how to collect it.
A baseline, actual result and data limitations are recorded.
A person made the decision after reviewing quality and side effects.
How this differs from S01–S13
This is a user route for a specific problem. The GRI AI research stages S01–S13 and the 13-week programme remain in the library as separate methodological work. This route is not a validated GRI diagnostic scale.
